Here are step-by-step instructions for configuring your iPhone’s mail program
to use Neptune.net mail servers:
Tap the Settings app.
Tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”. (NOTE: On some newer versions of iOS, you will need to tap “Passwords & Accounts” instead.)
In the “Mail, Notes” section, tap “Add Account…”.
Tap “Other” for the type of account to add.
tap “Add Mail Account”.
This brings up the “New Account” screen.
Tap the Name field to start entering your information, entering your name,
email address on the Neptune server (e.g. “firstname.lastname@example.org” or
“email@example.com”), password, and the description you’d like
associated with the account on your iPhone.
Tap the “Next” button when you are finished with these entries.
Tap the “IMAP” button.
Scroll down to the “Incoming Mail Server” section, then tap the
“Host Name” field, and enter “mail1.neptune.net”.
Then proceed to enter your username (note that this may not be the same as
your email address). Your password should already have been entered for you,
but enter this again if not.
Scroll down to the “Outgoing Mail Server” section,
then tap the “Host Name” field and enter “mail2.neptune.net”,
then enter your user name and password in the respective fields.
Tap the “Next” button when you have completed making these entries.
You will now see a “Verifying” banner at the top of the screen
while the iPhone communicates with the server to test the settings.
At the end of the test, you will see a “Cannot Connect Using SSL” message,
asking if you want to set up the account without SSL.
Tap the “No” button.
You will now see a warning that the account may not be able to send
or receive emails. Tap the “Save” button to save the account
information to this point. (We will need to configure some advanced settings
later, but the settings you’ve configured thus far have to be saved first.)
This brings you back to the IMAP screen. Tap the “Save” button
near the top of the screen.
It should now say “Account Added”.
Back at the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” screen, scroll down to
the account you just created (if it is not already on the screen), then
tap on the right arrow to edit its settings.
In the “IMAP” screen, tap the right arrow next to the email address
in the “Account Name” file.
This brings you back to the account information. Scroll down until you see the
“Advanced” button, then tap on the right arrow next to it.
This brings you to the Advanced settings screen.
In the “Incoming Settings” section. Tap on the
“IMAP Path Prefix” field and type “mail” in that field.
Then go to the Server Port field and replace the default value
Tap the “Done” button near the top right of the screen.
You should now see the “Verifying” banner again,
but no error message this time. You are now ready to use your
Neptune.net email account with your iPhone.
