Configuring Your Android Phone or Tablet for Email

Here are step-by-step instructions for configuring your Android phone’s or tablet’s mail program to use mail servers:

  1. Tap the Settings app.

  2. Tap "Add account".

  3. Tap "IMAP" For the type of account to add.

  4. Enter your email address and password in their respective fields, then tap the "Manual setup" button.

  5. Tap "IMAP" at the "Account type" screen.

  6. This brings you to the "Incoming server settings" screen. Enter your user name (note that this is not your email address and may not be the same as the first part of your email address) in the "Username" field. Enter "" in the "Server" field and choose "STARTTLS (accept all certificates)" in the "Security type" field. Your password and a port of 143 should already be entered. Tap "Next" when you are finished.

  7. At the "Outgoing server settings" screen, enter "" in the "SMTP server" field and select "STARTTLS (accept all certificates)" in the "Security type" field. The port should already be set to 587, "Require signin" should be checked, and your user name and password should already be entered. Tap "Next" to continue.

  8. This brings you to the "Account options" field. Set any options you’d like to change from their defaults, then tap the "Next" button.

  9. The final account setup screen allows you to enter the friendly name you’d like to appear in email messages you send. Once you do this, tap "Next" to finish setting up your account.

  10. When you go to your Android Apps screen, you should now see a new Email icon. You are now ready to use your email account from your Android phone or tablet.
